The actor to play the 12th Doctor has been announced as Glasgow-born Peter Capaldi.
The news didn’t come as a shock to some as an apparent leak naming Capaldi as the Doctor caused betting to be suspended late last week, even so bookmakers are reported to have lost £100,000 on bets taken before the suspension.
At the age of 55 Capaldi is the same age as William Hartnell was when he first created the role of Doctor Who. This of course will inevitably lead to a change in dynamic between the Doctor and his current companion. The romantic undertones and chemistry that we have felt between Matt Smith and his companions surely wouldn’t be appropriate anymore? Unless of course we will be seeing a new older companion? If this is the case then we say bring back Bonnie Langford!
The show’s executive producer Steven Moffat revealed that Peter had been called to a secret audition at his house, where they made a home video that was shown to all the relevant people and everyone was in agreement that Capaldi was the Doctor.
Although we can’t say that we are massive fans of the TV special hosted by Zoe Ball – we can say that we are impressed with the casting decision, Peter Capaldi’s acting skills and experience are surely going to give us a very ‘grown up’ doctor and we have no doubt that the actor will deliver!
